A deck focused on land destruction or control would benefit from including Scorch the Fields, as it can disrupt an opponent's mana base while also potentially dealing damage to Human creature-based strategies. However, there are more efficient land destruction cards available in Magic: the Gathering, such as Stone Rain or Molten Rain, which can have a more immediate impact on the game without the drawback of damaging your own creatures. Ultimately, Scorch the Fields may not see much play in competitive decks due to its high cost and limited effectiveness compared to other options.

If the targeted land is an illegal target when Scorch the Fields tries to resolve, it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. No damage will be dealt to any Human.
