A control deck in Magic: the Gathering would benefit from using Teferi, Time Raveler due to its ability to restrict opponents' spellcasting to sorcery speed and its flexibility in returning a permanent to hand while drawing a card. However, some players may prefer Teferi, Hero of Dominaria for its stronger card advantage and win condition potential. Teferi, Time Raveler should still see play in certain control decks for its unique abilities and disruptive nature.

If an effect allows opponents to cast spells any time they could cast an instant (for example, if your opponent also controls a Teferi, Time Raveler and activates his +1 loyalty ability), the restriction of Teferi’s first ability takes precedence over that permission.
