A deck that focuses on generating and utilizing energy counters would benefit from including Thriving Rhino, as it provides a consistent source of energy and can grow in power with additional +1/+1 counters. While there may be more powerful cards available, such as Longtusk Cub or Bristling Hydra, Thriving Rhino could still see play in decks looking to capitalize on energy synergies and creature buffs.

You simply choose whether or not to pay that amount of as the ability resolves, and no player may take actions to try to stop the ability’s effect after you make your choice.
