A deck focused on disrupting the opponent's resources and forcing them to make difficult decisions would benefit from including Torment of Scarabs. While it can be effective at draining the opponent's life or forcing them to sacrifice permanents or discard cards, there are potentially better options like Liliana's Caress or The Rack that provide more consistent damage or disruption. Torment of Scarabs could see play in specific sideboard strategies against control or combo decks, but may not be a top choice for main deck inclusion in most competitive environments.

While resolving the triggered ability of Torment of Scarabs, the enchanted player chooses a card to be discarded without revealing it, chooses a nonland permanent to be sacrificed, or chooses to do neither. Then that player discards that card, sacrifices that permanent, or loses 3 life. That player can always choose to lose 3 life, even if they have cards to discard or nonland permanents to sacrifice.
