A deck that focuses on casting a high number of noncreature spells would benefit from including Ringwarden Owl, as its Prowess ability allows it to grow in power with each spell cast. However, in competitive Magic: the Gathering play, there may be better options for a similar mana cost that provide more immediate impact or have additional abilities that can swing the game in your favor. While Ringwarden Owl can be a solid inclusion in the right deck, it may not be a top-tier choice compared to other options available in the format.

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
