Devil's Play would benefit a red burn deck that focuses on dealing direct damage to opponents or creatures. It provides flexibility with its variable cost and the ability to be cast from the graveyard with flashback. While Devil's Play is a solid choice for such a deck, there are potentially better options like Banefire or Fireball that offer more immediate impact or scalability. However, Devil's Play could still see play as a versatile finisher or removal spell in the right deck.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost (such as a flashback cost) you’re paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The converted mana cost of the spell is determined only by its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast the spell was.

You can cast a spell using flashback even if it was somehow put into your graveyard without having been cast.
