About Martyr for the Cause

Martyr for the Cause, Creature — human soldier, designed by Zoltan Boros first released in Apr, 2019 in the set War of the Spark and was printed exactly in 2 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 6.07.

This card would be beneficial in a white-based aggressive deck that aims to build up +1/+1 counters or other types of counters on creatures or planeswalkers. It could synergize well with cards that create tokens or have abilities triggered by counters. However, there are better options available like Ajani, the Greathearted which not only proliferates but also provides other powerful effects, making it a more versatile choice. Martyr for the Cause could see play in specific counter-focused decks, but its usefulness may vary depending on the overall strategy and synergy of the deck.

Rules

03/19/21

Players can respond to a spell or ability whose effect includes proliferating. Once that spell or ability starts to resolve, however, and its controller chooses which permanents and players will get new counters, it’s too late for anyone to respond.

03/19/21

To proliferate, you can choose any permanent that has a counter, including ones controlled by opponents. You can’t choose cards in any zone other than the battlefield, even if they have counters on them.

05/03/19

If another creature with a +1/+1 counter on it is dealt lethal damage at the same time as Martyr for the Cause, the triggered ability can’t proliferate a +1/+1 counter on the other creature in time to save it.
