This card would be beneficial in a deck that heavily relies on mana ramp and land searching, such as a green-based ramp deck or a deck that focuses on landfall triggers. While Selfie Preservation can be useful in certain situations, there are more efficient cards like Rampant Growth or Farseek that provide guaranteed land ramp without the condition of having a tree in the art. Whether Selfie Preservation should see play would depend on the specific strategy and synergy of the deck it's included in.

The tree doesn’t have to be alive, but it must be recognizably tree-shaped. Wooden structures that were once trees don’t count.
