Best Extra Deck Generic Monsters for Budget Players

As a Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG player, it is very important to keep an eye on the game's market, even more so if you're the kind of player that prefers not spending a lot in a card game. So, we prepared this list to present you monsters that can be used in many decks and are relatively cheap.

Besides that, most monsters in this list become more or less relevant depending on the meta game's spin, some even being able to be called "Extra Deck Staples" and for that, are used as long as you're active in the game.

Fusion Monsters are the least generic Extra Deck monsters, that because of their mechanic of using specific material to summon them. However, there are some exceptions and this list will be formed by Fusion that can be targeted by Super Polymerization and Instant Fusion, this way, becoming useful even in decks which are not focused on Fusion Summon.

Mudragon of the Swamp

Mudragon of the Swamp can be targeted both by Super Polymerization and Instant Fusion and besides serving as an extender, it is also a protection against cards that target your monsters.

Predaplant Dragostapelia

Predaplant Dragostapelia is one of Super Polymerization's targets that tends to be used both by decks focused on Fusion Summon and against these same decks.

Besides being a negate to Monsters, its effect of changing the level of an enemy Monster is quite relevant against Synchro and Xyz decks.

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon is another Super Polymerization target, and it is quite aggressive, once it can get ATK equal to 1 Monster Summoned by Special Summon by the opponent and when added to its 2800 ATK can get to a very high score. Besides that, if destroyed, it can destroy all Monsters Summoned by Special Summon by the opponent.

Thousand-Eyes Restrict

Thousand-Eyes Restrict is an Instant Fusion target and tends to be used in decks that play second, as its effect allows you to "steal" 1 enemy Monster by equipping it to it as an Equip Spell.

Link Monsters are the most generic, once most of them don't require specific material, and they also don't interact with Monster Level. As a result, there are more Link options than other Summon options.

Link Spider

Link Spider is a card that started being used in decks after the release of Nibiru, the Primal Being a few years ago. The reasoning to use it is using the Token to Summon it after getting "Nibiru'd", and try to keep comboing.

Salamangreat Almiraj

Salamangreat Almiraj is very popular in decks in which "Normal Summon" is a Monster with 1000 ATK points or less, and its utility is in the way it is an easy way to send your Monster material to the graveyard, and it can also serve as a protection against effects that can destroy 1 of your Monsters.

Charmer’s

Charmer's are Links that provide support to each Monster Attribute and share the effect of "stealing" 1 Monster from the enemy graveyard and, if destroyed, allow you to add 1 Monster of the same Attribute from your deck to your hand.

Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy is the most relevant "charmer" in the format, as Dark Attribute Monsters are the most present in the meta, but each one of them have their importance and the best for you is the one that best fits your deck.

Knightmare’s

Knightmare's are very versatile and useful Links in many various decks, as they each count with a different effect. All of them were present in the meta recently.

Topologics

Topologics are links that activate their effect when one or more Monsters are Summoned by Special Summon in the zones which they point to, this way, the effects vary from destroying to banishing the cards on board.

Topologic Zeroboros stands out as a good Monster to finish matches, once it gets 200 ATK points for each card banished.

Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos

Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos is the Link version of the classic Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, and it counts with 3 different effects that are activated when you destroy 1 Monster in battle.

Besides that, if Summoned using one or more 7 or more level Monsters as material, it can be destroyed in battle or by effects, and it also can't be the target of enemy card effects.

Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess

Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess needs no introduction and the novelty is due to its price, that lowered a lot, making it more accessible.

Negating Monster effects once per chain will always be very strong.

Borrelsword Dragon

Borrelsword Dragon is another Monster that needs no introduction and for some time was the best Monster of the game to finish matches. Though it fell down in popularity after the release of Accesscode Talker, it is still a very powerful card and can be acquired by a good price.

Synchro Monsters are not that generic, once they need at least 1 Monster Tuner to be Summoned, and besides that need to add the level of the Monsters used as Synchro material. Even so, it is possible to highlight a few of them that could be more useful in various decklists.

Black Rose Dragon

Black Rose Dragon is a Synchro 7 with high capability of clearing the board due to its effect of destroying all cards board when Summoned.

Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon

Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon is a very useful Synchro 8 as it is a negate and also for its high ATK of 3000, which can be increased after denying a Monster Effect and battling against a Level 5 or higher Monster.

Herald of the Arc Light

Herald of the Arc Light is a Synchro 4 used a lot in Ritual decks, due to its effect of being sent to the graveyard. Besides that, it is a negate for Monster, Spell and Trap effects. And more, it also has a continuous effect that banishes enemy Monsters that would be sent from the hand or the deck to the graveyard.

Naturia Beast

Naturia Beast is a Synchro 5 very useful against decks that depend a lot on Spells, as its effect allows you to deny the activation of those by sending 2 cards from the top of your deck to the graveyard. And most importantly, this effect can be activated many times in the same turn.

Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying

Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying is a very strong Synchro 10. Besides having 3000 ATK points, it gets +100 for each banished card.

Besides that, if this card would be destroyed by an effect, it counts with the protection of banning a card in your graveyard instead. The last of its effects is the strongest: if 1 or more cards are banished, you can banish 1 card from the enemy board and another from the enemy graveyard.

Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier

Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier is a Synchro 9 with 2700 ATK points and a simple effect of banishing 1 card from the opponent hand, be it on board, graveyard, or even in your hand.

Xyz Monsters depend on materials of the same Levels to be Summoned, this way, the most generic Xyz are the Rank 4 ones, as Rank 4 Monsters are the most present in the game.

Abyss Dweller

Abyss Dweller is very strong against decks that abuse graveyard effects, and is for sure the best Xyz in the current format to use against Tearlaments.

Gagaga Cowboy

Gagaga Cowboy was once more relevant in the past, and it recently gained a bit more popularity in decks. The reason for that is its effect of dealing 800 damage to the enemy health points and winning the duel due to the time rule.

Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir

Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is a Xyz on the rise in the format due to its continuos effect of putting all Monsters in defense position and denying their effects. Even Spright, which uses a fair number of Links, needs to deal with "Bagoosa" to combo.

Number 60: Dugares the Timeless

Number 60: Dugares the Timeless is also being used in the format a lot due to its various effects, however, most times it is used to draw 2 cards and speed up the deck's strategy.

Time Thief Redoer

Time Thief Redoer can "steal" a card from your opponent's top of the deck, and in the process can end up hitting a key piece. Besides that, it has a high ATK for Rank 4 Monsters.

Tornado Dragon

Tornado Dragon is a simple and efficient Xyz with its effect of destroying 1 Trap or Spell card.
