Introduction

Many beginner players struggle to identify whether a card's effect targets another card or not. That's because there are many effects that let the player pick the cards that will be affected by their card's effect, but don't necessarily "target" them. So, to help them identify these effects, we prepared a list with the most important cards that work with this type of interaction.

Check out below the best cards that don't target others in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG.

Top 10 Best Cards that Don't Target Others in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG

10 - Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres

Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres is essential for the Tenpai Dragon archetype, which is the most accessible deck in the Advanced format nowadays. "Seal", as it's known by players, tends to build the deck's final board when the player goes first or when they can't play an OTK.

To activate its effect, you need to tribute 1 monster from your hand or board (including itself, which is what usually happens), to then return a face-up card from the field to their owner's hand. This card can be yours or your opponent's.

9 - Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju

Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju represents all Kaiju in our list, and stands out among them as the best because its ATK is the lowest of them all. What earned it a spot on our list isn't its effect, buts its summon condition (which all Kaiju have): it lets their owner summon it on the enemy board by tributing one of their monsters. This way, this card is an excellent way to deal with a problematic monster on your opponent's board.

8 - Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames

Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames is one of the most important cards in the format, and is essential for the recently nerfed Snake-Eye. Besides being one of the best cards with effects that target other cards, thanks to its interaction effect, "Promethean Princess" is also one of the best cards that don't target other cards. Its effect, which summons a Fire attribute monster from your graveyard onto the board, earned it a spot on our list.

7 - Guardian Chimera

Guardian Chimera is a generic boss monster for fusion decks, particularly those that can summon it on your opponent's turn. If you use it this way, it is a very safe interaction, as it lets you destroy cards under your opponent's control equal to the number of cards on the board you used as material to summon it.

6 - Accesscode Talker

Accesscode Talker is one of the best, if not the best finisher in the game. One of the main reasons why is its continuous effect, which prevents your opponent from answering you when you activate your effects. The other reason is what earned it a spot on our list: it lets you banish 1 link monster on your own board or graveyard to destroy 1 card under your opponent's control.

Furthermore, you can use this effect multiple times on the same turn, as long as you have enough link monsters with different attributes to banish.

5 - Underworld Goddess of the Closed World

Underworld Goddess of the Closed World works similarly to Kaiju, as you can summon it if you use 1 enemy monster as material. Its advantage compared to Kaijus is that it is an extra deck monster, so you can easily access it "at any moment", even during your opponent's turn, if you summon it through I:P Masquerena's effect.

4 - Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times

Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times is an omni negate with an effect that lets you destroy 1 card at certain points of the game: when you activate this card's negate effect, at the start of the damage step and if this card attacks, and if this Xyz Summoned card is destroyed. So, besides having one of the safest interactions in the game, "Varudras" can remove many resources from your opponent.

3 - Triple Tactics Talent

Triple Tactics Talent has 3 excellent effects, but only one of them is relevant for this list. That's "TTT"'s second effect, which lets you take control of an enemy monster until the end phase, as long as your opponent activated a monster effect during your main phase. Besides "stealing" an enemy monster, you can use it in any way you'd like while it is under your control.

2 - Super Polymerization

Super Polymerization is quite versatile because, even though it is a board breaker, it also works really well when you go first. That's because then you'll be able to stop many decks' combo by summoning a fusion on your board and using enemy monsters as materials. So, this card is incredibly strong against decks that rely on bodies on the board to build their final board.

1 - Forbidden Droplet

Forbidden Droplet is another versatile card that you can use when you go first. However, it's much better as a board breaker. You can use "Droplet"'s effect, a negate effect, either proactively or reactively, and, furthermore, it also halves the ATK of the monsters whose effects you negated (so you can use this effect during the damage step). Thus, this card is practically a combination of Forbidden Chalice and Dark Ruler No More, but without their weaknesses: targeting and not dealing damage to the opponent.
