About Genesys

In today's article, we brought some very important pieces for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Genesys format: "free" board breakers, that is, cards that can break the enemy board and don't cost any points in the Genesys' point system.

In this format, we can only build decks that add up to 100 points total according to its unique point system. Like so, we have to know how to balance power and efficiency to build great Genesys decks.

As many popular board breakers cost a lot of points in this system, we decided to highlight the best "free" options if you want to clear the enemy board but still save a few points for other cards.

Let's see the best "zero-cost" board breakers for Yu-Gi-Oh! Genesys!

Best "Zero-Cost" Board Breakers in Yu-Gi-Oh! Genesys

Dark Ruler No More

Dark Ruler No More is considered by many the main board breaker in the Genesys format, not just because it doesn't cost any points in the point system but also because it is very efficient. Particularly when dealing with multiple monster interactions.

Because of how powerful it is, many duelists play it in the main deck instead of in their side deck, which is how it usually sees play in Advanced.

Ultimate Slayer

Ultimate Slayer is one of the most popular board breakers in Genesys, but it works better if you have a decent amount of space in the extra deck and can add great "targets" for it.

By the way, all the cards below are great "free" options that work really well with Ultimate Slayer, no matter how we summon them from the extra deck:

Cosmic Cyclone

Cosmic Cyclone has lost some space in Advanced in the last few years, but it is excellent in Genesys. That's because the new format is still very "open", so we'll often face decks that play at least one card in the back row. That's what makes "Cosmic" valuable.

Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju

Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju represents all Kaiju. It is also usually the best of them, as it is the least powerful, with the least amount of ATK.

Considering Lunalight has been seeing play in Genesys, Kaijus are very useful techs. They're an out for Lunalight Liger Dancer, for instance.

Lava Golem

Lava Golem is similar to Kaijus, but it deals with two monsters instead of one. However, because it is "stronger", it doesn't let you normal summon anything else on the turn you use it.

As a result, not every deck can use Lava Golem, which makes it less generic and, therefore, less popular.

Enemy Controller

Enemy Controller is one of the best "Take" cards because it is a quick spell. So, you can use it both when you go second, as a board breaker, and when you go first. It is very versatile in that sense.

Furthermore, as you need to tribute a monster to use it, you can play around enemy effects that would target a specific monster by killing it first.

Lightning Vortex

Lightning Vortex can be described as an alternative version of Raigeki. The only relevant difference between them is that "Vortex" forces you to discard a card. It might not seem like much, but discarding a card can be quite punishing for some decks.

Final Bringer of the End Times

Final Bringer of the End Times is a 1-to-1 board breaker that also destroys one of your own monsters as well as an enemy card.

Destroying your own monster can actually be quite useful, either to "play around" effects that target something on your board or in strategies centered around destroying your own monsters to trigger effects.

Gordian Slicer

Loading icon

Gordian Slicer is a "bounce" board breaker that forces you to banish a card from your hand or six face-down cards from your extra deck. It is interesting because it removes monsters from play without triggering graveyard effects, but it costs a lot more than the other cards in this list, so it's less efficient.

Metaltronus

Metaltronus is excellent in a well-defined meta, particularly in mirror matches. However, in the current Genesys meta, it won't perform that well. In such an open format, it's difficult to pair Type, Attribute, and/or ATK like this.

Still, it is great and could become the best card in the format in the future, that is, as soon as the Genesys metagame matures and matchups are more predictable.
