Introduction
Most floodgates in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG are continuous spells/traps, but we also have monsters with floodgate effects. Many times, they're even considered more dangerous than conventional floodgates because you can usually access them through combos or consistency spells.
In today's article, I'll show you the top 10 best floodgate monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG!
Top 10 Best Floodgate Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
10 - Dinomorphia Rexterm
Dinomorphia Rexterm's effect may seem too specific at first. However, considering its archetype focuses on using LP to play cards, the lockdown effect "Rex" gives you is one of the most oppressive effects in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG nowadays.

As Dinomorphia can easily get to 100 LP, "Rex" will practically become a Skill Drain, and, as a bonus, it may even reduce the ATK of enemy monsters significantly.
9 - Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo
Incredibly popular in anti-meta decks, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo simply stops you and your opponent from special-summoning monsters. Additionally, it may be a great "secret weapon" if your opponent attacks it while it is face-down. This card would occupy a higher position in this list if its ATK was a little higher; however, because of this, you'll have to rely on extra cards to protect it.
8 - Virtual World Kyubi - Shenshen
Virtual World Kyubi - Shenshen is the only monster in this list with an effect that interacts with the graveyard: it banishes monsters that would be sent from the board to the graveyard. Additionally, "Shenshen" can return from your graveyard if your opponent removes it from your board, which makes it pretty difficult to deal with.
7 - Knightmare Corruptor Iblee
Knightmare Corruptor Iblee's effect prevents you from special-summoning monsters, and will only let you link-summon monsters. Additionally, if it is sent to the graveyard while it is under your control, you can summon it onto your opponent's board, and, this way, it is a "lockdown" card.
"Iblee"'s second effect is quite versatile, as it is useful to play around boardbreakers, handtraps that summon themselves (Nibiru, Bystials), and even prevent your opponent from summoning their extenders. And, besides "protecting" you this way, if your opponent can't remove her from your board, you'll practically win the match automatically.
6 - El Shaddoll Winda
Even though it has been missing from the meta for a few years now, El Shaddoll Winda was once the most important floodgate monster in Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. The reason behind its "disappearance" is related to the ever-increasing powercreep in the game. It has made Invoked Shaddol very obsolete when we compare it to newer decks. So, even though it is oppressive, "Winda" doesn't really fit any deck that is strong enough to survive the meta nowadays.
5 - Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis
Out of all the cards in this list, Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis is the most recent one, and also the most popular one nowadays. It might not actually "lock down" the game, but “TY-PHON” is very useful to deal with the most influential xyz monster in the game, Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder. Besides, of course, the fact it disables activated effects in "towers".
4 - Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir
Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is one of the most popular floodgate monsters in the game. It was very popular to gain some time when your main combo was interrupted, considering its effect "disables" the activated effects of all monsters (except link monsters) on the board for a few turns.

Its effect is quite oppressive, and, against a few decks, it is a true FTK.
3 - Naturia Beast
Another very oppressive floodgate monster is Naturia Beast, which is only unpopular in the format right now because we don't have a deck that can summon it consistently. It would be essential to disable Spell Cards, as Anti-Spell Fragrance is limited.
Naturia Beast is so strong that it is always relevant in the competitive scene: a few competitive players always ask Konami to ban it, but it isn't in their plans, apparently.
2 - Inspector Boarder
Inspector Boarder is very popular in Stun decks, which in this format are popular alongside Runick decks. This card's effect is considered complex by many players, but it basically prevents both players from activating a monster's effect, depending on the number of monster card types on the board (Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, and Link).
This way, if you don't have any of these types of monsters on the board, you can't activate monster effects. If you only have one of these types of monsters, you can only activate monster effects once. If you have two of these types of monsters, you can only activate monster effects twice, and so on and so forth.
1 - Thunder Dragon Colossus
Recently out of the banlist (which surprised many players), Thunder Dragon Colossus has an incredibly powerful effect: it prevents your opponent from getting specific cards from their deck and adding them to their hand (they can still draw cards, however). Even though there are cards with a similar effect, "Colossus" stands out because it has great ATK/DEF stats and an effect that protects it from being destroyed by battle or card effect. Additionally, it is quite generic, which means we can use it in several decks as support for the main combos in our strategies.
